Hope

It was precisely at 8:10 AM on June, 10, 1968, when I was discharged from the US Army at Fort Meade, Maryland.

I was stationed with the 6th Armored Calvary. In April of 1968 we were deployed as riot control troops in Washington DC, after Martin Luther King was assassinated, and now Presidential hopeful, Bobby Kennedy was assassinated and my former unit was on alert to be in Baltimore or Washington D.C., if any riots broke out there.

For me, however, my hitch in the Army was over and I was heading home.

All of my clothing was stuffed unceremoniously in my army duffel bag along with my shaving kit. I had $200.00 in my wallet representing my net worth.

I remember walking to the cab stand at Fort Meade, to head over to the airport in Baltimore to fly to Illinois where my parents lived at the time. Today was Monday and I was set to start summer school at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois on Wednesday, June 12. In a few hours, I will be “back on the street again.”

The overwhelming feeling that consumed me at this time is the same overwhelming feeling consuming me forty one years later is one of “hope.”

As I walked to few blocks over to the cab stand, I remember not feeling my feet touch the pavement. It was if I was gliding through the air. Once the cab reached the airport in Baltimore, I reached in my wallet and gave the cab driver one-hundred dollars for a twelve dollar fair. I told the cab driver to keep the change.

In my stupor of hope, I just handed the driver one-half of my net worth, as I headed toward a new sense of adventure and of hope.

I never really thought about that gesture, until today.

In the United States today, all I read about in the newspapers or on the Internet, is how everything is so economically depressed. It is even suggested in the newspapers and coming from politicians everywhere that the American Dream is dead…that we all need to consume less, spend less be less, and have less.

I find that way of thinking insulting and totally wrong.

I am sure that is what all of our parents sacrificed for as we were growing up and what our men and women in the military died for and still die for, to preserve our freedom.

Coming out of that short period of time that had two inspirational leaders killed because they saw a better America, I could understand only one path to pursue.

The path that I took and that I will always take is one of “hope.”

Hope will navigate you beyond other’s limited expectations.

Hope will give you a positive outlook that will wake you up early in the morning.

Hope will excite you everyday to do your best in spite of adversity.

Exactly forty one years ago today, I gave away half of my fortune in return to keep something alive.

What I wanted to keep alive and want to keep alive today is “hope.”

Achieving Goals and Building Hope Requires Stress Annihilation

Why do you want to annihilate stress? The best reason for annihilating stress is because when you are in a stressful situation, you lose hope.

You lose focus on your goals. If you are a business professional responsible for bringing in new business, you may feel you want to give up.

Stress and hope sit at opposite ends of a teeter totter.

Do you remember when you where a small child playing on a playground at school. Many schools provided equipment for exercise. One of these pieces of equipment was a teeter totter. A teeter totter or seesaw as it is known in some places is simply a board balancing on a fulcrum with a place to sit at each end.

Two children sit on a teeter totter with the heaviest child sitting first in order for the lighter child to take a seat on the other end to balance out the load. They alternatively shift their weight to cause their seat on the teeter totter to go up and down.

Stress and hope work the same way as the two children conducting the balancing act on the teeter totter. Stress or fear as it is more accurately defined, and hope, or goals as it is more accurately portrayed, sit at opposite ends of the teeter totter.

As one end goes up the other end goes down. As stress increases its end goes higher in the air and hope goes down. As hope climbs higher in the air, stress goes down. Stress and fear are always opposing hope and goals.

It seems accurate that we need to annihilate stress and fear in order to elevate our hope and our goals.

I remember the movie the “Shawshank Redemption” where the wrongly imprisoned character, Andy, told the other inmates that hope was something no one could take away from you. He said “hope is a good thing, maybe the only thing.”

We begin our lives here on earth, knowing that we could die or be incapacitated at any moment. This is why stress or fear is always near the surface of our thoughts. The major thing that keeps us going is “hope;” hope for good health, hope for enjoyable relationships, hope for positive achievements and hope for enough money to pay for all of our desires.

To the degree that we can diminish stress and fear, we can elevate our goals and elevate hope. Is it difficult to keep hope alive while eliminating stress and fear? Yes it is difficult.

Fear is always appealing to our senses. Advertisers for example focus on our fears.

I remember an automobile commercial that started out by two guys arguing in the car and then an accident ensued. The two men were okay but shaken up visibly by the accident. Anyone watching the commercial can identify with the fear and stress associated with the accident.

Television newscasts focus on several fearful, stress causing events before they get to the sports news, business news or weather. Viewers become hooked on these stressful situations as they arrive home from work and while watching television.

Through all of our entertainment options we observe stress and fear. Words to incite fear are abundant in our spectator sports.

Think about the words and phrases you hear by sports commentators. Think about words and phrases like, “sudden death,” “elimination round,” “Yankees murder Red Sox,” “Spurs defeat Suns.”

The overwhelming majority of sports fans are affected by these terms because they are supporting “losing teams.” There is usually only one world champion in any given sport, meaning all of the rest of the sports fans “feel stress and the agony of defeat.” We experience the other end of the teeter totter as we lose hope.

Do you think we may carry some of this loss of hope into our jobs and our personal lives?

We are so used to being motivated by fear and stress that even our leisure time activities reflect it. Isn’t that a shame?

Always remember these statements: “When we are playing on the teeter totter, stress is at one end and hope is at the other end.” “We need to develop a quiet confidence to move our minds and bodies in the direction of hope.”

What is your ultimate goal? Where do you want to be in five years? If you could time travel to a place in your life five years from now and look back at today, what would you tell yourself about today. How important are the stressful situations you face right now in your life? Would today even be that important in your overall success? Five years into the future, would you still be thinking about your favorite sports teams’ loss of five years ago, or the price of gasoline?

Think about what life will be like five years into the future. Think about your victories, your goals and your hope.

The Teeter Totter Exercise:

Take three slow deep breaths. As you inhale slowly, breathe deeply from the bottom of your lungs. Before you exhale, hold your breath for a few moments and then exhale very slowly. Push all of the tension out of your lungs.

See yourself on the teeter totter flying higher in the air. Think about hope. Think about your specific goals and feel in your mind, your heart and your body that you have already achieved your goals.

Summary:

Stress and hope are constantly competing on your teeter totter of life. Stress always equals fear and hope always equals your goals. Use the teeter totter exercise daily and you will take a huge step to annihilate stress and propagate hope.

Can you believe that headline? I can’t.

The truth is NO one can hypnotize anyone in 10 seconds or less. Otherwise I would send Bill Gates and email with a short statement hypnotizing him to make me his new charitable foundation!

Hypnosis takes time to learn and more importantly, takes time to practice on others. When I perform Stage Hypnosis Shows, I always ask for a bevy of volunteers. The first show I ever performed at a high school back in Illinois, I got 40 volunteers on stage.

The more people you work with, the easier the trance state is able to be achieved.

Working with people one-on-one to overcome life challenges, is the most difficult hypnosis to master because you must not only impact your client, but you must be able to overcome all of the influences he or she must face, the very second they leave your office and go back to living their lives.

This is where the real power of hypnosis is needed.

My Mom Died Today

My Mom died today.

My Mom, Elaine Perkins died this morning at 7:AM at her home in New Port Richey, Florida.

I would like to share with you some wonderful things about my Mom.

When I was five years old back in the early 50’s, Mom would sing to opera and classical music records while washing clothes and ironing clothes in our dining room.

Our dining room and living room were connected and I would play on the floor with my hundreds of cowboys, Indians and Army soldiers. At the same time, Mom would be singing from her huge library of songs. Her beautiful songs, helping me feel secure.

My Car

I used to have a little green station wagon peddle car. It resembled a Plymouth station wagon my Dad drove at the time. As I was peddling down the sidewalk on Clifton Park Ave in Evergreen Park, IL, I could look back and see my Mom watching me out the upstairs window.

Even when I went around the corner out of view, I always felt my Mom could see me.

I think all Moms have a special kind of vision when it comes to their children.

Cub Scouts

Mom always wanted us to have more than she had growing up during the Great Depression. We never had a great deal of money but all of our Christmas’s were fun and we always received everything we wanted.

Mom was involved in Cub Scouts for me and Brownies and Girl Scouts for my sisters. I remember a Cuberee event out in a huge forest where all of the scout troops were decked out in original Native American dress.

Our pack was adorned of Pueblo dress and we even learned an original hoop dance to display at the event. When it was time to play we all took off into the forest to play “hide and seek.”

Even though I thought I was will hid in the thick forest, it didn’t take long for my Mom to find me and bring me back to the scout camp.

She always had a sixth sense of finding me. I guess that is just indicative of the bond between Mother and Son.

Rest in peace, Mom. You get to sleep late today.

Annihilating the Stress from the New Great Depression

Here are three quick tips on annihilating stress from the New Great Depression that is going on in the United States and is spreading world-wide.

Here are 3 quick tips on overcoming the effects of the New Great Depression.

1. Do not fear. As President Franklin Rosevelt said during the last great depression and the phrase carried over to World War II, “You have nothing to fear, but fear itself.”

Fear stimulates the law of attraction, albeit in a negative way. If you want things to worsen in your personal economy, just focus on it long enough and it will happen.

2. Turn off your television…until the crisis is over.

Think of what you could do in the time you waste watching television or using it as a companion as you scury about your home. Television will feed your fears with even more fear. Television will rarely warn you of an incoming missle strike or terrorists stearing airplanes into buildings, or the nearest tornado.

Television is much better suited to telling you what to fear after it has happened.

If you need something to fill your time in the 30-40 average hours most people spend in front of their television, than 1. get a part time or a second full time job, 2. volunteer at a charity of your choice. (there are plenty of mimimum wage jobs or straight commission jobs or others that will bring in money while you are riding out the New Great Depression)2. volunteer at a charity of your choice.(charities need all of the help they can get. You will also meet many great contacts for future jobs or busineses your are considering in your future)

3. Instead of spending less, buy more stuff.

Most of us spend more than we earn. This is the time to get two or three jobs, start a business, get advance degrees or just study more to learn more, but not to retreat ino a shell. The more we earn means we can spend more, live more and be more.

Refer to point number 2, and get a second or even a third job. You will appreciate the extra cash, the feeling of power, and the new control you have over your fear of “lack.”

Take action now, feel better now, and enjoy the power of steering your personal economy out ot the New Great Depression.
